The Highs and Lows

I visited Christian today. He was in very good spirits because he....

- had a very positive visit with Stephanie this week,

- is excited to see Claire, Jane, and Ollie who are coming for this,

- is getting much stronger and feeling better physically, AND

- (most likely) gets to go home* on Saturday!

On the other hand, I'm not in the best of spirits because....

- Jay is out of town this week for a work project at the ranch, with my dad and brothers, and I miss him, and I don't sleep well when he's not here, and I don't like being a single-mom, AND

- I just had 4 inches chopped off my hair, and I'm feeling some remorse.

Oh well, it will grow back.

* To stay at my parents' house for a while, and do out-patient therapy at the hospital where he can also visited his beloved Stephanie.

  1. What good news about Christian!

I bet your hair looks great, and doesn't it feel wonderful? (My hair always feels so healthy right after I get it cut.) You just need to get used to it. By Monday, you'll love it. Share a picture!

My DH is deployed right now, so I can understand how you feel about being a single mom.

Have you all had the opportunity to connect with Jason Schechterle and his family at all? They might be able to provide some guidance for the future. I'm glad things are progressing well.

  6. Can't wait to see your hair! When my hubby works nights or is gone I sleep with the TV on- then I don't hear every single little crack of a noise in the house and get myself all in a tizzy! Ya know what I mean?!

Oh and talk about remorse... I got a perm. No not in the 80's. A month ago! I still wake up every morning and pray my hair is straight again.

  8. You can't say you got a new haircut and not post a picture! I love your hair short so I'm sure it's great. So happy about Christian. Do you think there will be a big turnout for the concert? I'm trying to decide if I want to give away my ticket to ASU and go solo to the concert instead.

  9. I have found this situation with your family so interesting. Most of us have never me any of you. We probably never will. However, because of this "new media" we all feel connected to you. I believe that we all can learn to be better people and just give love--even if it is just through our prayers. Prayers truly are felt. They are such a blessing.

  11. My thoughts are prayers will be with you right now! Sending a virtual hug! Your hair will be cute and you will see that you like it after you get used to it! If not, it's only hair and it grows back~right? ;-)

I read the update on cjane's blog and then yours. There are so many wonderful things going on this weekend. It is truly going to be busy and an emotional roller coaster! I wish strength and peace for both families as Steph wakes up! I have been sending special prayers for Christian for strength, courage, patience, and peace during this time. I can't wait to hear how the reunion with the kids goes!

  13. I'm sure going home is bittersweet for Christian. He wants to be home with Stephanie. I'm happy the kids are visiting this weekend!!

As for the hair, I have remorse everytime I get my haircut. But if I recall you have fabulous, thick, beautiful hair there is nothing you could do to make it look bad. Your hair always looks good!

Have a great reunion. In the big picture, it's "good news" and "not-too-bad news." :)

Wishing you all the best this big weekend. You've all been amazing managing to balance all the new along with the every day living. Glad you had a great birthday weekend. On a light note, you'll either work the new haircut or count the days til you can glance in the mirror without groaning. Continued prayers for your wonderful family.

  18. First of all- that is great that Christian is going to go home AND see the kids AND that he's been able to visit with Steph. Yay!

Second- to "anonymous": tragedy doesn't make us not be who we are. We still hate haircuts or get bugged by people who cut us off in traffic. We can't let tragedy be so stressful and all-consuming that it paralyzes us- we have to go on living.

I guess what I'm saying is: Alice, that's FINE if you have hair remorse. I'm sure you look great but I understand the feeling. It's part of life and you should not stop living your life not matter what else is going on. That's what enduring to the end is all about.

Prayers for you and your family.

  19. Thank you Brooke. Having personal experience with tragedy, it's the little things in life that make you feel some sense of "normal". An absolute necessity. Thank you Alice. You rock!
