Prayer Works

My brother Peter and his wife Darin visited Christian yesterday. I enjoyed this report from them:

Christian was cinched up in his new back brace and strapped into a fancy chair when Peter and I saw him yesterday. He was in a sitting position after 17 days at "30 degree maximum" as he put it. (That's the most incline he is allowed in the bed.) It was so fun to hear his voice, though it's not quite his yet. He was laboring to talk and to stay alert, but he had his humor and was coherent.
As we were saying goodbye, he swelled with thanks for our visiting him and then he spoke so beautifully about prayer that I wrote it down after we left so I wouldn't forget. He said, "Thank you for the prayers. I feel them. I feel them. I've needed them more this past week (17 days, but who's counting :) than I ever have in my life. And there have been times in here when I needed them so badly, and I could feel them. Keep them coming."

Thank you all SO much for your prayers. Please "keep them coming!"

I have never formally met Stephanie. I barely know Chris. I was in Chris' ward for a little while. Marcus was in my sunday school class when he was like 9. Even with the very small connection, I am drawn to pray for Chris and Stephanie each day. Some days it is several times a day. My wife and kids pray for them each night. I am so glad to hear that they are being watched over so closely by our Heavenly Fater.

  4. This family is changing thousands of lives just by letting people pray for them. People who haven't prayed in a long time are turning to prayer and seeing the blessings and goodness that comes from it. I am amazed by the faith of the Nielson family. Thank you so much for the updates.

  10. Alice,

I hope you don't mind my comment. I've been reading your updates on Christian and Stephanie and really appreciate your viewpoint on their progress. Our family has been praying so hard for Christian and Stephanie and even though we don't personally know them, it is so good to know that they are feeling the prayers of many around the world.

And we will continue to pray. Everyday.

  11. Wow, this family is so lucky to be so blessed. What wonderful families they have!! That is great news that he is recovering well. You are a sweet sister. I love what he had to say about 'feeling the prayers' that is touching. We will KEEP praying for this dear family.

I started a blog, in honor of the Nielsons and others who have shared their inspirational stories with all of us. If you would like to look at it the web address is,

  15. Alice,
I don't know if you remember me from Mesa High, but I heard about your brother and sister-in-law in a really random way today (friend of a friend of a friend's blog sort of thing). Just wanted to let you know that I am praying for them, their children and all of the extended family and friends who are helping out.
    Take care and God bless,
    Aimee (Rippel) Ramirez
