A Day at Home

My foot is feeling much better today. Thanks for all your well-wishes. It seems so silly in comparison to everything else that has happened.... kind of embarrassing.

I have felt a little guilty.... well not really guilty because I know I'm doing a good thing... but kind of sad that I haven't spent as much time with Jack lately because I have been spending a good amount of time at the hospital. He loves to play at his friends' houses (thank you all for helping!), so it isn't really a big deal to him, but I have been missing him.

So, today was "Jack-and-Mommy-Stay-At-Home Day." (Besides, I needed to take it a bit easy on my foot.) Here is what we did:

Memory/Matching Game: Jack is pretty good

We put together a SpiderMan puzzle.Jack needed some guidance, but did a lot of it himself. So proud when it was complete.

Jack insisted on playing Scrabble, but since he can't read yet, he's not so good at that. But he enjoyed making patterns with the letters.

We finished the book I have been reading to him at night. (This one is better as a adult-real-aloud so you can leave at the swear words!)

We also played a game of Dominos, so of course we had to do this afterward.

  2. He is cute. How old is he? Wait, don't answer that if you don't want to. It's fine either way. I just played trains with my 3 (almost 4) yr old Marshall. It's his MOST FAVORITE thing to do in the whole world! He could play trains all day. He likes books too but not until he gets his meds and can settle down enough to sit and let me read to him.

  8. Michelle,
I would say it depends on your child's attention span and language ability. Jack is 4 1/2 and fairly advanced so I felt like he could handle it. There were a few times when I needed to explain something, but some of that comes from some unfamiliar British usages. The nice this is the chapters are very short, and it works well for reading aloud. Give it a try!

I just wanted to say that I am very glad you got to spend the day with your son. It is my favorite thing to do. It is also a great way to get your mind off the difficulties of being a grown up sometimes. I know that you do not know me but I came across Stephanie's story on AOL and have not been able to stop reading about her and Christian, they seem like such wonderful people and me and my family have prayed for them everyday..... I know that God is watching over them and they are very blessed to have such a wonderful family. So I am wishing you the best wishes from Texas....
